We’ve been informed by Lutheran World Relief that some of the Quilts that campers and counselors at Lutherhill assembled this summer are on their way to India to bring warmth and comfort to those in need! LWR wanted to share this with us as soon as they heard so we could share the news with your campers and supporters!
It will take a few months for the Quilts to arrive and be distributed, so we don’t have any pictures or stories yet.
The photos highlighted are (left) of Sister Camelus, praying over LWR Quilts prior to a quilt blessing for people served by Mother Teresa’s Sisters of Charity in Kolkata; and (right) of Dipali Pramanick. She holds a Quilts her husband received while being treated for tuberculosis. Unfortunately, he passed away, but she cherishes his Quilt as a precious reminder of him, and of people around the world who showed love to him through this gift. Dipali has one son and one daughter, and she walked almost a mile with her Quilt to the Santi Tuberculosis Hospital to thank LWR.
You can also check out this issue of the LWR Faith in Action newsletter, which includes a fuller cover story about LWR Quilt distributions in India.
We will continue to track the quilts we made during our 2013 summer and we’ll let you know of any unique and amazing stories that come of them!
One more exciting note: Lutheran World Relief will be sharing this information with other camps to let them know about the awesome opportunities available when participating in LWR Quilts & Kits and the opportunity for LWR Summer Camp Service Grants!
Thank you to everyone who donated so generously to make this happen, especially our friends at The Quilted Skein!
