Summer 2022 Theme | Daily Bread Project
THEME: Lutherhill’s theme for Summer 2022 is COME AS YOU ARE! All are welcome at Jesus’ table of grace, just as we are. No dress code, no prerequisites. Jesus invites all people to come. And when we break bread together, Christ is revealed in our midst.
DAILY BREAD: Every year our Daily Bread Project (our summer service project) enhances the message of the Wednesday bible study. This summer we will learn about being Together, Just As We Are. God says we are better together, when we listen, learn and play with one another. When we share a meal and build relationships.
So this year we are partnering with Bethlehem Community Table in New Orleans, Louisiana. This feeding ministry serves hot, gourmet meals free of charge to anyone who hungers. More than a just a meal, this is an opportunity for people of different walks of life break bread together, listen to each other’s stories and see God come to life. Through this Daily Bread partnership, we are able to provide food for body and soul for people across New Orleans.
Each week at Lutherhill, every camper participates in the Daily Bread Project. Together, we learn about hunger and feeding ministries and then learn about the good work of Bethlehem Community Table. To support Bethlehem Community Table’s good work, we will gather monetary donations and create Care Kits.
Care Kits contain personal hygiene items to be distributed by Bethlehem volunteers. These kits will give people that do not have consistent access to bathroom and shower facilities, basic items like a washcloth, antibacterial wipes, toothpaste, toothbrush, lip balm and more. Campers will also write a little note to tuck into the Care Kit, a word of encouragement and compassion for our neighbors in New Orleans.
Monetary donations will help cover the cost of groceries and kitchen essentials to make the feeding ministry possible. Each meal costs around $400 to serve 200 people. We hope to raise $3,200 this summer to cover the cost of 8 meals, one meal for every week of camp. Look for opportunities to give in daily parent emails while your camper’s week!
